Submission Guidelines

This stuff is really important. If you send us a photo that doesn't meet our guidelines, we won't be able to use it so read the following carefully.

    1. It should say We Are: Make sure your statement begins with "We are" since that's the name of this website. "I will," "We want," "You should," and the like are all valid statements but they belong on some other website. We Are... it's that simple.
    2. All About You: The photo should be of you or you and your friends. Be sure there are no strangers in the background of your photos that may not want to get included in this endeavor. Oh, and by the way, yes... a single person can qualify as "We" in this instance since we're talking about you as an example of the larger community. So if you can't get anyone to be in the photo with you, set up that auto-timer and go to town!

    3. Make it readable: Be sure that your statement is visible in the photo. Print a sign from your computer or write the words with a black marker to make it legible. If we can't read it, we can't use it.
    4. Signs vs. Captions: We would prefer that you take a photo with you or your group holding a "We Are" sign, however if you want to take an existing photo and add a caption to it, that's okay, too.
    5. Follow the format: The photo must be a JPG or GIF. No other formats will be allowed. Why? Because it makes life easier for us and we're 100% convinced that you want to make life easier for us, don't you?
    6. More formatting: The photo must be no larger than 100k and should be no larger than 640x640. Why? See "easier on us" above.
    7. No trademarks: Make sure that there are no trademarks, recognizeable products, or copyrighted material in the photo. The shirt your wearing with a soft drink logo on it... the handheld touchscreen gadget that starts with an "i"... the bobble head doll of a certain cartoon mouse sitting on your desk... yeah, cover those up. We don't feel like getting sued.
    8. Keep it clean: No nudity beyond what you can get away with at a non-nude beach, no hateful or insulting statements, no threats or intimidation, and try to keep the profanity to a minimum. We completely agree that there are situations where only the f-word will get the point across properly, but f-words just for the f-word of it are pointless. We get the final say on what is or is not "clean."
    9. Everyone is welcome: You don't have to be gay to participate. Our straight friends and family are more than welcome to join us. It's about equality folks!
If you still need some inspiration, take a look at the What Should I Say? page. Otherwise, go take your picture and when you're done...
