Elections

One of the primary goals of Citizens For Equality is to create by election a leadership committee made up of members of the gay community and its supporters to act as our representatives and spokespersons.

In the past, the gay community has suffered from a lack of true, unified leadership. There are many worthwhile organizations out there, but they are often narrowly-focused and none of them are answerable to the broad community they have pledged to serve.

Citizens For Equality seeks to change that by holding an election, where people from our community will campaign to become the representative for a portion of the United States (see districts). All other concerned citizens will be able to register and then vote for the candidate they believe will best represent the concerns of their district and the community as a whole. Sounds kinda like democracy, doesn't it?

These representatives will act as our leaders and our spokespersons, working with gay and straight organizations, political groups, governments, charities, the media, and more to ensure that our voices are being accurately and fairly heard. They will be advised by a cabinet of experts in specific areas of gay life, including race relations, aging issues, HIV and other health concerns, and much more.

We are currently in the process of establishing a steering committee that will create a roadmap toward the election and seek out viable candidates. If you'd like to be on the steering committee, visit the Be a Leader page. Our group is located in Los Angeles, but we can connect virtually through the Internet and/or phone so you are not required to be in the LA area.

If you'd like to be considered as a candidate, we're not there yet but you can join Citizens For Equality - our members will be the first to know when we're ready to move forward.
